Heritage Of
your city
LGK in the Community works across heritage, creative engagement, and community development, using culture as a tool for preservation, participation, and public visibility.
Our work focuses on documenting stories that are often overlooked within mainstream heritage spaces. Rather than approaching heritage through traditional archive methods alone, we preserve heritage through creative outputs including documentary filmmaking, oral histories, food heritage, public murals, photography, digital storytelling, and creative technology. Our projects are designed to exist both as cultural experiences and long-term heritage resources.
A key part of our approach is being embedded within communities. Activity takes place through trusted local spaces, schools, community organisations, and grassroots partnerships, allowing communities to shape how their stories are preserved and represented.
QUEENS OF THE CITY
Journey
Queens of the City developed from our award winning Queens of the Commonwealth documentary, created during the 2022 Commonwealth Games. for Culture Fest The project used film, visual art, and storytelling to celebrate inspirational women connected to Commonwealth communities.
That work demonstrated how communities connected more strongly with heritage when stories were presented through contemporary and publicly visible formats such as murals, documentary, food culture, and creative participation.
This led to the development of Queens of the City in Walsall- expanding the concept into a wider heritage model combining workshops, oral histories, schools engagement, public art, digital interpretation, and community-led storytelling.
Stories
Honoring The Queens of your City
Our programme includes a media collection of local women sharing their stories that capture the heart of their city’s heritage. By sharing their life journeys, we are keeping an essential part of the local legacy alive.
Celebration.
Recognising these women strengthens the shared identity. It reminds us that true history is built on diverse experiences and contributions. So, highlighting these stories helps us foster a sense of pride and belonging, creating a more inclusive and united community.
Art
Showcasing artistic talents in through traditional art methods, and also embracing new technologies and experiences. We create a legacy of augmented reality murals in the community. Here is an example of a similar experience:
Food
We showcase dishes that are attached to the identity of each queen and form part of the heritage of the city. Through our programme, we collect recipes with a story linked to each of the women we interview, which identifies them and their city.
For Schools
And Community Organisations
As part of the programme, we work with local schools and community organisations using food and belonging as a common theme to underpin the importance of heritage and identity.
