Zandafest The Vision

  • Our initial aim is to hold a creative festival in Cyprus in 2028, incorporating Film, Fashion and Art events- called Zandafest.
  • Long-term, our objective is to establish an annual creative festival in Cyprus that will sit on the international creative calendar as a focus for emerging talent throughout the world.
  • We want to make Cyprus a centre of excellence in creative arts for emerging talent throughout the world, offering educational and infrastructural support.
  • We see Zandafest as a vehicle to inspire and embolden new film makers, fashion designers, and craft persons to realise their potential through our educational programs and showcase events.
  • We want Zandafest to celebrate and honour the creative spirit of the ethnic diversity found in the island of Cyprus, standing, as it does, at a cultural Crossroads between Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
  • Zandafest aspires to rekindle the artisan skills of the island to establish a new generation of creatives from within the melting-pot of the Cypriot community.
  • Ultimately, we want to make Zandafest a Global creative festival open to all, promoting new talent across the region and the world.

The Concept

  • To hold a full creative programme concentrating on film and fashion with a tangible arts programme that celebrates both components.
  • To create a film festival with a theme of global migration attracting film makers from across the world.
  • The festival’s grande finale will comprise of a fashion show and film premiere.
  • To create a series of educational seminars, lectures and talks on film, fashion and art.
  • To create a fashion range to be showcased within a catwalk-style show alongside global and local designers who have re-invented the Cypriot artisan lace and other tailored skills.
  • To encourage the best of local and global designers and art students to exhibit and sell their works in a public show.
  • As part of the film component, we aim to launch a videography and art programme in which local and global Cypriot artists will share their interpretation of women of the island and life in Cyprus.

The IICC is preparing its annual conference in Cyprus for educators and parents, focused on one of the most urgent challenges facing young people today: excessive screen use and the decline of meaningful human interaction.

At the heart of the conference is the concept of oracy — the ability to communicate effectively through speaking and listening. Increasingly recognised worldwide as a foundational life skill, oracy supports not only academic success, but also emotional wellbeing, critical thinking, empathy, confidence, creativity, and social connection. Researchers and educators are now highlighting oracy as an essential counterbalance to the growing dominance of digital communication and passive screen consumption. 

 

The conference will bring together educators, parents, and specialists to explore practical strategies that help young people step away from screens and step back into real conversation, dialogue, and human connection. It will serve both as a professional training opportunity for educators and as a support platform for parents navigating the digital realities of modern childhood and adolescence.

Sessions will examine:

The impact of excessive screen exposure on communication, attention, imagination, and emotional development

How conversation-rich environments strengthen learning, resilience, and relationships

The conference also acknowledges a growing international concern that many young people are losing opportunities to practise sustained conversation, interpret social cues, and develop confident self-expression due to increasing dependence on screens and algorithm-driven communication. Across education systems globally, oracy is now being recognised not as an “extra,” but as a core competency for the future. 

Through keynote talks, workshops, panel discussions, and practical resources, the IICC conference aims to equip both educators and parents with the tools, understanding, and confidence to help young people reconnect — with themselves, with others, and with the world around them through conversation.
