PART DOCUMENTARY

Women Walk Home Cyprus

This documentary, led by hosts Dr. Linda and Sophia, seeks to connect with the founders of the initiative and articulate their vision for a peaceful ‘Walk Home’. This campaign was initiated by three British women, who were wives of Cypriot refugees, and decided to make a symbolic journey to their spouses’ homes, not expecting the wide-ranging support that followed. Women activists worldwide rallied in favor of human rights, opposing the illicit Turkish control of a third of Cyprus since the conflict in 1974. The hosts will revisit and walk bravely with the initial activists. These women will recount their journey of defying fear, navigating military barricades and minefields, and hoping to garner global attention to their cause.

Plaza de Mayo Argentina

In the second episode, attention will be directed towards a pivotal protest that occurred in 1977, led by the formidable Mothers of Plaza de Mayo. This protest was a direct reaction to the heart-wrenching disappearance of their children during the tyrannical governance of Argentina’s military junta. This autocratic era was characterised by extensive fear and vicious repression, where innumerable young lives were suddenly claimed or vanished without a trace,. Motivated by an immeasurable sense of loss and a quest for justice, these brave mothers converged on the plaza and have campaigned every Thursday since with over 2992 protests to date.  Our hosts will explore the consequences of the campaign and its impact across generations, as well as how these mothers’ endeavours have motivated women globally.

The women of Rwanda rising

Our third episode will take a slightly different direction, centering on the aftermath of Rwanda’s civil war in 1994, which resulted in the loss of nearly a million lives. Amid the turmoil, women assumed essential roles, fostering peace and order. Although the genocide garnered global attention, the crucial role women played in the country’s recovery remains largely underappreciated. Today, women occupy over 64% of seats in Rwanda’s parliament, the highest such percentage in the world. Inspired by Swanee Hunt’s 2017 book, ‘Rwandan Women Rising’, we will explore the endeavors of female leaders in Rwanda and their movement for transformation across Africa. Our hosts will investigate the underlying force of these influential women and how the global community can draw lessons from their achievements.

The Aurat March Pakistan

The fourth episode will shift its focus to Pakistan, examining the traditional groups frequently quoted invoking a renowned saying: a woman’s rightful place is in her ‘chadar aur char diwari’ – which translates to ‘veiled and within the confines of her home’. Despite facing violent intimidation and legal challenges, women throughout Pakistan took to the streets to assert their rights, directly challenging that ideology. Since 2018, Aurat March, which translates to Women’s March in Urdu, has been conducted in various cities across Pakistan, timed to align with International Women’s Day on March 8.  Dr. Linda will explore the psychological effects of the conservative factions on women and how effectively campaigners strive to ensure their voices are heard.

Universal Of Hope

Fight despite fear

Each episode will be organised around a series of psychological questions, which will be compared throughout the series but also analysed separately in each episode. In this setting, we will explore the reasons why certain people choose to advocate for their beliefs even though they are afraid of the consequences of their actions.

Collective Activism VS Individual Resistance

In each episode, we will delve into the significance of a united community voice, probing how it yields more power and influence than singular acts of defiance or opposition. We will discuss and analyse various scenarios where the synergy of collective voices has brought about substantial change or awareness in societal issues. By comparing it with individual efforts, we will seek to understand the dynamics of solidarity and shared purpose.

Common Traits

The intention of this series is to thoroughly explore and examine the landscape of individuals who are actively engaged in activism and those who are fervent supporters of various campaigns. The focus will be on identifying and analyzing the similarities and shared attributes among these passionate groups of people. By investigating these common characteristics, the series aims to provide deeper insights into what drives these activists and campaigners, and how these common traits contribute to their effectiveness and influence. Ultimately, this examination may reveal patterns and principles that are pivotal in the broader context of social movements and advocacy work.
