Synopsis

A 90-minute action drama or a 6-part series inspired by the real-life tale of a young man’s journey to becoming a war hero on the small Island of Cyprus. He endured the harshness of British colonial rule in the 1950s, avoided execution through a pardon from Queen Elizabeth II, and moved to Birmingham, England due to heartbreak over his only true love. Lalos became the city’s guardian and drove the infamous Kray brothers back to London in the early 60s with their pride wounded. He lived dangerously and narrowly escaped death multiple times. He poured his heart into his friends and loved ones, yet his generous nature was exploited by those closest to him. Despite these challenges, he triumphed over his island and conquered his adopted city, but in the end, his fate proved inescapable.

Main characters

Gabrillis "Lalos"

Gabrilis (Gabriel) or Lalos as he is commonly known is the main character who is larger than life. He wears his heart on his sleeve which is taken advantage of many times. He loses himself in the underworld of the UK after being a war hero in his beloved island of Cyprus. HIs heart belongs to his first love who constantly crosses his mind as he walks through the valley of the shadow of death on many occasions.

Costa (28)

Costa, or Costara as he is known, is the younger brother of Lalos. He is far from matching the bravery and fearsome reputation of his older brother, perpetually living in his shadow. He often creates havoc for Lalos who is constantly fighting in his corner

Mickey and "Archy"

Mickey Pouris and Archy (short for Achilles) are brothers and know everyone in the city. Mikey runs the infamous cafe in Lozells Handsworth known as the Acapulco renowned for starting the Handsworth riots in 1979. Mickey and his brother are part of the crew that ran the city alongside Lalos.

Executive Summary

LALOS, THE KING OF AMATHUS is a sweeping six-part action drama inspired by true events, spanning from British-colonial Cyprus in the 1950s to the violent underworld of Birmingham from the 1960s through the early 1990s.

At its heart, this is not a story about crime—it is the tragedy of a good man who makes the wrong choices, a warrior built for war who finds no peace when the war ends. Forged by colonial brutality, betrayal, and a broken heart, Lalos becomes a mythic protector of Birmingham’s streets, respected and feared across communities. Yet every victory costs him something deeper: his innocence, his capacity for love, and ultimately his soul.

The series explores how violence, when mistaken for purpose, corrodes identity; how faith can both save and judge; and how a man can conquer cities yet remain powerless against his own heart.

Structurally, Cyprus forges the wound, Birmingham exploits it, and faith ultimately judges it.

Visually and tonally, the series sits in conversation with Peaky Blinders, but where that world glamorizes power, LALOS interrogates it—asking what happens after the myth, when the cost finally comes due.

EPISODE 1 – THE FORGING

Cyprus, 1950s

THE FORGING

Lalos is a teenage farmer of extraordinary strength living under British colonial rule. When his village is brutalized and his mother struck, he joins the resistance group EOKA. His bravery makes him legendary—and marks him for betrayal. Keravnos, a fellow fighter who envies Lalos’s strength, respect, and the love he commands, betrays him. Lalos is captured and sentenced to hang. As he writes his final letter to Aphrodite—his one true love—he is unexpectedly pardoned by Queen Elizabeth II. The wound is forged: survival feels like fate, not mercy.

EPISODE 2 – THE BETRAYAL

Cyprus → Birmingham

THE BETRAYAL

Keravnos poisons Aphrodite’s perception of Lalos, destroying their future. Shamed, heartbroken, and unable to return, Lalos is sent to Birmingham under the blessing of Archbishop Makarios III to become a professional boxer. Instead, his uncontrollable strength and impulsive choices pull him into violence. Within months, he is imprisoned again—not for guilt, but for loyalty misplaced. The pattern begins: Lalos always pays for the mistakes of others—and his own.

EPISODE 3 – THE KINGDOM

Birmingham, 1960s

THE KINGDOM

Out of prison, Lalos becomes a bouncer, then an enforcer, then something more: a protector. He commands respect across Black, Irish, Asian, and Greek communities. When the Kray twins attempt to claim Birmingham, Lalos drives them out in a legendary confrontation. Birmingham becomes his kingdom. But power feeds his gambling addiction—his subconscious need for fate to punish him. Even when he wins, he loses.

EPISODE 4 – THE CORRUPTION

1970s

THE CORRUPTION

Lalos’s power curdles. Protection becomes intimidation. Loyalty becomes control. He breaks hearts without noticing—including his own children’s mothers. During the Handsworth riots, Lalos and his crew operate in the shadows, manipulating evidence, saving friends, and bending justice. He believes he is keeping the peace—but at the cost of his soul. A mysterious Woman in Black begins to appear, watching him from a distance. She does not threaten him. She warns him.

EPISODE 5 – THIRTEEN

1983

THIRTEEN

After Turkey declares Northern Cyprus a pseudo-state, Lalos spirals. In an illegal dice game, he is stabbed thirteen times but survives—barely. In a coma, the Woman in Black appears and offers a choice: Live in sin like Judas, or turn and walk like Saul who became Paul. He awakens, but cannot forgive himself. In court, he saves the man who stabbed him by refusing to identify him. The king begins to fall.

EPISODE 6 – THE FALLEN KING

1990s → Cyprus

THE FALLEN KING

Lalos seeks redemption through faith and restitution, giving back what he once took. He prays to die with a broken heart—believing it is the only payment worthy of his sins. Years later, old and frail, he returns to Cyprus and finally reunites with Aphrodite. The love he wanted was always there—but chosen away by lies and pride. At the airport, his heart gives out. He dies peacefully, smiling, having finally paid his debt. A good man. A dangerous man.  Neither answer enough.

Final Note

LALOS, THE KING OF AMATHUS is not about how power is taken—but about how it costs. It is a series that grips with violence, seduces with myth, and lingers because it dares to ask:
